Sicario 3 News: Josh Brolin Confirms Filming Status and Return
Sicario 3 release date
Hi, everyone! I have some really exciting news for all the movie fans out there. If you’ve been waiting for Sicario 3 to finally start filming, you’re in for a real treat today. I just found out that Josh Brolin is officially ready to reprise his role.
For those who don’t know: Brolin played Matt Graver in the first two movies. He was that tough CIA agent working on the border to take down drug cartels. He mostly teamed up with Benicio del Toro’s character, Alejandro. The second movie made a lot of money, so it was clear to everyone that a third movie was coming. But it’s been a really long and rocky road to get here.
Our team member Ash Crossan interviewed Brolin about his new project, The Dog Stars. During the conversation, Brolin revealed some really cool news about the third movie. He essentially confirmed that “Sicario 3” is indeed being filmed. He also said that work on the film will begin “soon.” That’s great news!
It’s been about a year since Brolin mentioned that the film looked “very, very real.” At the time, he’d only heard about it through the rumor mill. He also wasn’t sure whether the original director, Denis Villeneuve, would return to direct this film. The second film was directed by Stefano Sollima, so the situation was still a bit unclear.
What else do we need to know?
Even though Brolin says it’s on track, there are still many unanswered questions. We know that the major writers’ strike in 2023 caused significant delays. The producers said at the time that the script had been nearly finished before everything came to a standstill. But we still don’t know who’s writing it right now.
Taylor Sheridan is the main creative force behind the story, but he’s incredibly busy with his Yellowstone series and all the projects he’s working on for Paramount+.
We’re also not entirely sure who will direct the film. There have been rumors that Christopher McQuarrie might be involved as a partner, but it’s hard to say whether he’ll direct, write the screenplay, or just serve as a producer. He’s been very busy with the Mission: Impossible movies and a number of other projects, so his schedule is pretty packed.
Will the original cast return?
Villeneuve has been very busy filming the “Dune” movies. Everyone knows he’s a big name right now. He’ll probably shoot a new “James Bond” movie next. But if the project goes well, there’s still a chance he’ll return to the film series he launched.
Another big question is who else will be part of the cast. We know that Benicio del Toro’s character, Alejandro, is still alive. The last time we saw him, he was looking for someone new to help him. That could mean he’ll take on a whole new role—or perhaps his story will come to an end. Some fans are also really hoping that Emily Blunt will return. It’ll be really exciting to see who gets cast once filming begins.
