Netflix movie Gentle Monster
We have some exciting news! Netflix has just released the trailer for a new movie called Gentle Monster. You probably know Léa Seydoux from big-name films like No Time to Die or Dune: Part 2. Now she’s back, starring in this new psychological thriller. The screenplay was written by Marie Kreutzer, who also directed the film. The film has already been screened at festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival and will soon be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will be released in select theaters on October 30 and will be available on Netflix on November 18.
The cast is truly outstanding. Alongside Léa Seydoux, the film features Jella Hasse, Laurence Rupp, and the legendary, Oscar-nominated Catherine Deneuve. In the film, Seydoux plays a character named Lucy. Lucy is a concert pianist. Her life is turned upside down when the police show up at her home to search through her husband’s belongings. Suddenly, she has to ask herself whether she ever really knew him at all.
What is the movie about?
If you liked the movie Anatomy of a Fall, you’ll probably like this one, too. It’s all about not knowing who you can trust. According to the official description, Lucy must protect her son during the raid. She also has to come to terms with the fact that her husband is accused of a truly horrific crime. It’s an extremely gripping story about the struggle to survive and the search for the truth about the person you live with.
The trailer shows Seydoux playing the piano, which looks beautiful. Catherine Deneuve also appears. The trailer doesn’t reveal exactly what crime the husband, Phillip, committed. You just find yourself wondering what will happen to this family. Even though the trailer is quite vague, the film is actually based on a real-life court case against an Austrian actor named Florian Teichtmeister.
The true story behind the film
In 2020, a magazine called Die Zeit published a report on a massive pedophile ring. About 30,000 people were involved. This news deeply affected director Marie Kreutzer. At the time, she was working on her film “Corsage”, and one of the actors in it was implicated in the scandal. When Florian Teichtmeister was charged, Kreutzer was completely shocked.
She told people in Cannes that at first she felt she couldn’t continue working on Gentle Monster. She was concerned that people would always associate her new film with the scandal involving the actor from her previous project. She thought about quitting, but ultimately decided that it would have been wrong to hide away. She pressed on and finished the film anyway. Be sure to catch Gentle Monster in theaters starting in October.
