The best movies you should be streaming right now: Thrillers and psychological dramas
This section is for anyone who wants to feel uneasy—but in a good way. You can expect suspenseful scenes, characters you can’t trust, and stories that will stick with you. Some include horror elements, others don’t. But they’re all very intense.
The Crash (Netflix, 2026)
This is a documentary thriller that premiered on Netflix in May 2026. It has received excellent reviews, but not enough people are talking about it yet. It’s perfect if you like suspense based on real events. If you haven’t added it to your list yet, do it tonight.
Gone Girl (Netflix)
This movie is based on a book by Gillian Flynn. It was directed by David Fincher. Honestly, it’s one of those thrillers you can watch over and over again. It’s currently available on Netflix again. The plot is tricky—you really can’t trust the main character. Rosamund Pike is super creepy in it. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, make time for it. If you’ve already seen it, it’s still great the second time around.
Talk To Me (Netflix)
This is an Australian horror movie from A24. The premise sounds a bit strange—teenagers find a ceramic hand that lets them talk to the dead. But it’s actually very creepy. Even if you don’t like horror movies, this one will probably unsettle you in a good way.
Dramas and emotional heavyweights that deserve your full attention
These movies are just the thing if you want to sit down and really watch something. They’re not just background noise. They make you think. They’ll stay with you long after the screen has gone black. Whether you’re alone or with a partner—these are all excellent recommendations.
Remarkably Bright Creatures (Netflix, 2026)
This is one of the most moving films you can find right now. It has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is incredible. It’s not like typical Netflix dramas. Here, the characters take center stage, not a neat ending. If you enjoyed movies like “My Octopus Teacher,” you’ll love this one. Watch just 30 minutes of it, and you won’t be able to stop.
“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (Netflix)
Tom Hanks plays Fred Rogers. You might think, “Oh, it’s just a nice movie.” But it’s actually deeper than it seems. Director Marielle Heller has created a very poignant film. It’s about a journalist who’s quite the cynic. He meets Mr. Rogers, and that changes everything. The film is very emotional and well-made.
Born on the 4th of July (Netflix)
This movie came out in 1989. It’s a war drama set in Vietnam. Tom Cruise stars in it, and he’s incredible. It’s one of those movies that touches you even more deeply the older you get. If you haven’t seen it yet, you absolutely have to catch up on it. It’s long, but take the time it needs.
Action and adventure movies for pure spectacle
Sometimes you just want a movie that moves at a breakneck pace. You want something exciting. That’s totally fine! These three movies are a lot of fun. Two of them are well-known favorites, and one is a newer Netflix original that you absolutely should check out.
Enola Holmes 3 (Netflix, 2026)
It’s really hard for a third movie in a series to score full marks. But this one has pulled it off. Millie Bobby Brown is funny and quick-witted as Enola. You can jump right into this one, even if you haven’t seen the two installments. It’s a great movie for families or groups. It’s currently one of the most entertaining movies you can watch on TV.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (Netflix)
Tom Holland’s first Spider-Man movie is still one of the best. It’s back on Netflix. You don’t have to be a huge superhero fan to enjoy it. At its core, it’s a high school movie about a boy who can climb walls. It’s a lot of fun. Check out this movie if you just want to have a good time without thinking too hard.
Goat (Netflix, 2026)
This is a Netflix movie from 2026. While it has action elements, the focus is really on the actors. It has a 90% rating, which shows just how good it is. It’s not just another boring action movie. It has a lot of heart.
