One Piece Imu Swords Revealed So Far
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to finally find out what Imu is really all about in the world of anime. After spending nearly eight years in the shadows, the series’ main villain finally steps into the spotlight in the Elbaph Arc.
This is a huge moment for fans. We finally got to see what he looks like, learn his gender, and discover that he’s one of the original Twenty Rulers. But the coolest part? We’re finally learning everything about the One Piece Imu Swords that everyone’s been talking about.
Imu isn’t just some guy sitting on a throne. He’s actually a really tough fighter. He uses all kinds of weapons and is also great in close combat. Many of the weapons he uses are the same nineteen blades that were stuck in the ground near the Empty Throne in Mariejois.
These weapons belonged to the first rulers of the World Government. The only one we’re still missing comes from Alabasta. Thanks to his special power called “Omen,” Imu can seize any of these weapons during battle. So far, we’ve seen ten of them. Most of them are swords, which officially makes Imu one of the strongest swordsmen in history.
11 THE SEA GOD’S SWORD: FRAGARACH
Immediately after stabbing Luffy, Imu drew Fragarach. It is another sword enveloped in black flames. It originates from Irish mythology. In these stories, the sword belonged to a sea god named Manann. It was said to rob anyone it struck of their strength, and no armor could stop it. Manann was also the king of the “Otherworld,” a realm of gods and magic. It’s possible that the series’ authors drew inspiration from these myths to develop Imu’s character.
10 BLADE OF JUDGMENT: NEMESIS
The first weapon to actually be given a name is “Nemesis.” It’s called the “Blade of Judgment.” It’s a massive greatsword. Imu used it to stab straight through Loki’s chest in Chapter #1181. The name comes from a Greek goddess named Nemesis. She was all about punishment and judging those who overstepped their bounds. It’s the perfect name for a sword wielded by someone like Imu.
9 BLADE OF HATRED: STIGMA
Imu began using this sword in Chapter #1187. It is a black, fiery sword. He uses it to stab Loki. The attack is quite terrifying. Imu forms a circle with his thumb and index finger to summon fireballs. These strike Loki in the chest even before the sword actually hits him. It’s extremely precise.
8 BLADE OF NOTHINGNESS: VOHU
This is probably the deadliest one we’ve seen so far. Imu used it in Chapter #1188 to stab Luffy. It pinned him directly to the Jewel Tree Adam. The blade features a swirling pattern and black flames. Imu said this sword actually sucks the life out of anyone it strikes. The name refers to the idea of “emptiness,” which in turn alludes to some ancient writings about the breath that exists in nothingness.
7 SWORD OF CHAOS: TOHU
In Chapter #1189, St. Sommers spoke with Zoro about Imu’s equipment. During that conversation, he mentioned the Sword of Chaos: Tohu. We haven’t seen this sword in battle yet. In Japanese, the name refers to the state of the world before anything was created. Since the name sounds very similar to that of the other sword, Vohu, the two might form a pair. That would be bad news for anyone fighting Imu.
6 XINGTIAN’S AXE
In Chapter #1189, Imu fought against Gaban. To do so, he drew an axe. It is called the “Axe of Xingtian.” It is one of two axes found before the throne. It is based on a Chinese myth about a headless god who also fought with an axe.
5 LONGINUS
St. Killingham used this weapon in Chapter #1189. He said it belonged to the Rimoshifu family. We haven’t seen Imu use it yet, so we don’t know what effect it has. In St. Killingham’s hands, it is merely a fancy spear. The name is derived from the spear used in ancient accounts of the crucifixion. For a weapon, this is a very significant historical reference.
4 UNNAMED POLEARM
Aside from these nineteen Ruler Weapons, Imu possesses a cool polearm. This is the weapon he was holding when he first appeared on Elbaph. It has a zigzag-shaped blade and a dark cloud at the other end. It’s super weird, but also very powerful. He uses it like a tube to shoot out small Omen balls. Sometimes, with the help of omens, he even transforms it into a flail, a morning star, or a mace.
We don’t know the name of this spear yet. It could be the Nerona family’s weapon, but that’s just a guess. The cool thing is that these weapons seem to change their shape a little bit every time Imu starts swinging them around.
3 BLADE OF WRATH: GRAM
In Chapter #1183, Imu drew another weapon. It is a flaming polearm that she calls “Blade of Wrath: Gram.” We’ve discovered that it belongs to the Shepherd family. Another character, St. Sommers, can also use it thanks to his “Omen” ability. It’s funny because when St.
Sommers holds it, it looks like a saber with thorns on the hilt. When Imu uses it, it’s a spear. This sword appears to be based on an ancient legend from Norse mythology. In those stories, a hero named Sigurd pulled the sword from a tree to slay a dragon. In the series, Imu uses it to fight Loki while Loki has taken on his dragon form.
2 MURAMASA
St. Sommers also spoke about Muramasa in Chapter #1189. We haven’t seen this sword yet either. It’s named after a famous Japanese swordsmith who was known for crafting cursed blades. These ancient swords actually served as inspiration for the Kitetsu blades in the story. Since one of the characters in the series already owns a Kitetsu, it stands to reason that Muramasa belongs to the Nusjuro family.
