Big news for fans of the series! The wait is finally over—there’s a brand-new pokemon wildcard new anime movie. It’s been six years since we last saw a movie in this series. This one, however, will be completely different. It’s based on the trading card game, not the video games we usually play. That sounds like a fun, fresh new start for everyone.

Everything is now officially set for a 2027 release. We first heard about this project at the Pokémon World Championships. The news was also posted on their official Japanese X account. It’s going to be a feature-length film, which is simply amazing. The main character is actually a player of the trading card game. And she teams up with Mimikyu. Seeing Mimikyu in a leading role will definitely be a highlight.
The studio behind the animation is CloverWorks. The director is Katsuhiko Kitada, and the character design is by Akemi Hayashi. A teaser has already been released on YouTube. It offers a brief glimpse into the card game and lets us catch a look at the main hero and his ghostly partner.
The last movie we got to see was “Secrets of the Jungle” from 2020. That was the 23rd movie. Ash and Pikachu appeared in it, but it differed a bit from the usual TV series. There were plans to make a 24th movie without Ash, but unfortunately, it was canceled. That’s why people are so excited about Wild Card.
This is only the second time we’ve gotten an animated project based on the trading card game. The first was a miniseries called “Path to the Peak” in 2024. The trading card game is incredibly popular, so it makes perfect sense to focus on it. It opens up a whole new perspective on the world of Pokémon.
We’re used to seeing Ash and Pikachu, but this movie brings a change of pace. The poster features a new, as-yet-unnamed main character. He’s definitely not Ash. For one thing, he looks much older. He appears to be in his mid-to-late teens. Ash was always ten, so this is a big change.
The guy on the poster is wearing a hoodie and looks a bit grumpy. He doesn’t smile the way Ash always did. It seems as though he might have more difficulty interacting with people or in social situations. We already have Liko and Roy in the “Horizons” anime, but they still exude that classic Ash energy. This guy seems much calmer and more reserved.
It’ll be really interesting to see how the story handles a character like this. “Wildcard” seems to be a bold new direction for the franchise. Honestly, I can’t wait for 2027 to finally arrive. Are you looking forward to discovering a different side of the Pokémon world? Let me know what you think!
