Netflix has scored another major sci-fi hit, and everyone is talking about it. The new thriller is called The Last House. If you look at what was popular on the platform in 2026, you’ll find titles like The Rip, War Machine, and Apex. These movies are huge hits. People expect Netflix to bring big stars and cool sci-fi stories right into their living rooms. This new movie fits the bill perfectly. People are already saying it’s very reminiscent of War of the Worlds or A Quiet Place.
Louis Leterrier is directing. You might know him, since he’s also working on the latest Fast and Furious movie. He’s done a great job on this project. The story is about a family trapped in their own home while the world outside is falling apart. It’s really scary. The lead role is played by Wagner Moura, whom you probably know from Narcos.
He even received an Oscar nomination earlier this year. Greta Lee is also part of the cast. She was fantastic in Past Lives. The cast also includes younger actors such as Riley Chung, Emma Ho, and Noah Alexander Sosnowski.
The reviews have been rather mixed. Critics weren’t impressed, and the Rotten Tomatoes score is around 26%. The audience score, at 28%, isn’t much higher. But the numbers don’t lie. People are definitely watching it. In the first three days alone, it racked up 27.5 million views. That’s enormous. As I write this, it’s number one on Netflix worldwide.
Will there be a sequel to “The Last House”?
Since the movie is doing so well, everyone wants to know if there will be a second installment. So far, nothing has been officially announced. We’ll have to wait and see if the popularity lasts. But Wagner Moura told us what he thinks about it. He recently spoke with us about this possibility.
When we asked him if anyone else had survived, he said: “I think there are other survivors, too, and that’s interesting. I mean, I hope the movie is well-received, and then we can shoot a sequel, either with our characters or without them.”
It sounds like he’s pretty interested in the idea. We asked him what a sequel might look like specifically. He said: “I’m very curious to see what the world looks like after they’ve left the house. And the creatures—I’d love to learn more about these creatures and find out what the world looks like now.
