Big news for fans of “The Witcher season 5.” It looks like the fifth and final season of the Netflix series will be released later than expected. According to a new report, we probably won’t get to see it until 2027. That’s a bit of a shame.
The information comes from a website called “What’s on Netflix.” The site noted that the series has been removed from the streaming service’s 2026 schedule. Everyone had expected it to be released next year. Now it looks like that won’t happen. An exact date has not yet been announced. We only know that the premiere has been postponed to 2027.
To be honest, this comes as quite a surprise to everyone who has been following the series closely. A fan site called “Redanian Intelligence” mentioned that filming for the final season was already completed in September 2025. That means the series has been in post-production for quite some time. It feels like a really long wait, especially since we already watched Season 4 back in October.
“The Witcher” didn’t have it easy on Netflix. Fans of the books and games were upset from the very beginning. As early as 2018, there was heated debate over the casting of Henry Cavill as Geralt. But then the situation changed. After two seasons, most viewers actually really liked his portrayal of the character. It came as a shock when he announced he would be leaving the series after the third season.
That was a big deal. Liam Hemsworth took over the role of Geralt for the fourth season. The series was already struggling with bad press. Rumor had it that the writers didn’t like the original books or games at all. Such rumors really damaged the series’ reputation. It seems the damage had already been done.
The fourth season wasn’t particularly well-received by critics or fans. Rotten Tomatoes shows a critic score of 59%, but the audience score is significantly lower at just 19%. Viewership numbers were also quite disappointing right from the first week. Although we at TCH gave it a 7/10 rating, many people just couldn’t get into it.
Last year also saw a change in the actor playing Vesemir. Peter Mullan replaced Kim Bodnia. It was just another change in a series that’s brimming with them. So far, Netflix hasn’t explained why the release date for Season 5 was postponed. We haven’t been given any new dates at all. While we wait to learn more about the final season, you might want to catch up on the books instead..
