Marvel has just introduced a brand-new villain to the world of the X-Men, and it’s a big deal. This new character is actually a descendant of Mystique and has some of the same cool powers. Mystique is known for being able to transform into practically anyone. She can copy your voice, your fingerprints, and even your eyes. This makes her the perfect spy, since she can hide in plain sight. She can even alter her own body to grow wings or claws, for example, when it’s really necessary.
Many people find her ability a bit strange from a scientific perspective. She doesn’t just copy appearances—she can actually create matter out of thin air. When she transforms into a heavy form like the Blob, she simply becomes bigger and heavier right away. She can even make things like clothing or fake weapons appear on her body. It’s not real metal, but it looks absolutely convincing. Now it seems her family has inherited an even more terrifying version of these powers.
MIRRORMIND IS THE SON OF MYSTIQUE AND MASTERMIND
There’s a new X-Men comic called “Bishop,” and in it we’re introduced to this new villain named Mirrormind. Bishop has been busy fighting a group called the “Final Brotherhood.” He’s already faced off against a guy named Flamequake, who’s related to Pyro and Avalanche, as well as another guy named Skippinstone, who’s descended from Toad and Blob. Now Bishop has to deal with Mirrormind, too. This guy is the child of Mystique and Mastermind.
Mirrormind is extremely dangerous. Thanks to his parents, he can change his physical appearance while simultaneously messing with your mind. He tricked Bishop by transforming into his sister, Shard. He lured him onto a ship where nothing is as it seems. He doesn’t just look like other people. He can make you see things that aren’t even there—just like hearing voices or feeling blows that aren’t actually happening. It’s impossible to tell whether he’s standing right in front of you or if it’s just a trick of the mind.
THE X-MEN SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO FIGHT THE FINAL BROTHERHOOD
Usually, it’s pure coincidence when mutant children gain their powers. Nightcrawler is a good example of this, as he received his powers from parents other than the ones you might expect. But these new villains in the Bishop comic are different. They seem to possess two sets of powers, one from each of their famous ancestors. That makes them twice as hard to defeat.
Bishop can really count himself lucky that he only has to fight one of these guys at a time. If they all teamed up, it would be an absolute nightmare. There are so many other villains whose children could show up, such as Magneto or Sabretooth. If you imagine someone with the power to control metal, combined with super-fast healing or super-speed, the X-Men would have a very hard time. That’s a scary thought for the heroes.
