I have some super exciting news for all you sci-fi fans out there! If you love The X Files as much as I do, you’re going to be thrilled. A brand-new comic book series is officially on the way. This series is basically the epitome of ’90s television. It was created by Chris Carter in 1993.
It centered on the two famous FBI agents, Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, who traveled across the country searching for aliens and other strange phenomena. Even if you’ve never seen a single episode, you probably still know the theme song or remember that funny crossover episode they did with “The Simpsons”. It’s completely understandable why people are still obsessed with this show.
The original series ended back in 2002 after a full 11 seasons. But it didn’t disappear for good. Scully and Mulder returned in 2016 and 2018 for two more revival series. There were also a few movies, including The X Files from 1998 and The X Files: I Want to Believe from 2008. Opinions on these movies were a bit mixed, but that’s okay.
Right now, a whole new X Files renaissance is taking place. There’s a new reboot by Ryan Coogler, as well as a new R-rated version of the movie. Now we’re also getting a new comic book series. And some really big names are being brought on board for it.
The Return to Comics
Topps Comics was the first to release comics based on this series. But now Dynamite Entertainment is taking over. A new series launches this winter. And guess what? Veteran writer Joe Hill is returning to write it. This is part of a major deal between Dynamite and Disney, since Disney now owns the rights. The plot is being kept under wraps for now, but the cover of the first issue has already been revealed.
They’ve also released some cool character designs for Scully and Mulder, created by artist Riley Brown.
Nick Barrucci, the head of Dynamite Entertainment, spoke with the folks at Bleeding Cool. He said the timing for this comic couldn’t be better. He mentioned the new version of “The X Files: I Want to Believe”, which premieres this Friday on Disney+ and Hulu.
He also said: “Dynamite is launching ‘The X Files’, and the timing for the announcement couldn’t be better. To make this even more special, we’ve brought back Joe Harris, who has written some incredible stories, and it’s great that he was able to take on the series and present it to retailers and fans!”
A Labor of Love for Fans
Bringing Joe Hill back was a brilliant move. He truly loves the series and has so much experience with it. He told everyone how excited he is to write new stories for Mulder and Scully.
He said: “The X Files has always been something sacred to me. From my own early excitement as a TV fan on Friday and Sunday nights to working on one of the greatest supernatural thriller/science fiction series in history, the continuing adventures of Agents Mulder and Scully have held a very special place in my mind and my career.” He sounds genuinely happy to be collaborating with Dynamite on this project.
It’s clear that The X Files still has a huge fan base. That’s why so many people want to come back and work on it again. Chris Carter is the series’ creator, so he’s working closely with Ryan Coogler as an executive producer on the new projects. We don’t really know yet what the new series will look like. It’ll be a surprise when it finally comes out. But with Carter on board, there are so many cool possibilities for how this universe could continue to grow. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
