Netflix brings the chilling Lizzie Borden axe murders to life in Monster
Netflix is releasing a new season of its hit series Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, and it looks totally crazy. This time, they’re going way back in history. They’re exploring the famous Lizzie Borden axe murders. That happened over 130 years ago, and people are still obsessed with it. A new trailer just came out, and it’s super creepy.
The series is an anthology, which means that each season tells a different story. Since 2022, there have already been seasons about Jeffrey Dahmer, the Menendez brothers, and Ed Gein. These cases date back to the last few decades. This season is different. It goes all the way back to the late 1800s. The star of the series is Ella Beatty. She appeared in “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You”. She plays the lead role, Lizzie Borden.
The true story behind the series
In 1892, Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in Fall River, Massachusetts. It was a huge scandal. She actually went on trial, but the jury acquitted her. Nevertheless, everyone in her town believed she had done it. She spent the rest of her life practically alone because people wanted nothing to do with her. The new trailer gives us a glimpse of how Netflix portrays the days leading up to the murders and what happened when the police began to investigate the case.
The trailer shows how trapped Lizzie feels in her fancy, wealthy home. She meets the family’s maid, Bridget Sullivan, whom everyone calls Maggie. Vicky Krieps plays her. Maggie feels trapped, too. She hates living in a house full of mean people. The official synopsis states that both “feel trapped in a house built on humiliation and cruelty.” They begin to dream of taking revenge. They even discuss how they might use weapons. We don’t know for sure who killed their parents, but the series makes it seem as though Lizzie and Maggie hatched a plan together.
Who’s in the cast Of Monster The Lizzie Borden Story?
In Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, there are some really familiar faces. Charlie Hunnam plays the father, Andrew Borden. Rebecca Hall plays the stepmother, Abby Borden. Also appearing are Jessica Barden as Nance O’Neill and Joey Pillar as John Morse. Billie Lourd plays Lizzie’s sister Emma. And guess what! Sarah Paulson appears at the end of the trailer as Aileen Wuornos, the serial killer who murdered seven men.
That’s a cool surprise. Vicky Krieps also plays another role as a Hungarian noblewoman named Elizabeth Báthory, who was notorious for her horrific deeds hundreds of years ago.
The showrunner for this season is Ian Brennan. He co-created the series with Ryan Murphy. Max Winkler directed most of the episodes. Filming began in September and wrapped up in March. Many of the actors, such as Charlie Hunnam and Vicky Krieps, have previously worked with Brennan on the Ed Gein season. Actors like Billie Lourd and Sarah Paulson have been collaborating with Ryan Murphy on American Horror Story for a long time.
You can watch the new season as soon as it premieres on Thursday, September 17. Netflix has many other major new releases lined up for September, such as the second season of The Gentlemen and the new stories from Stranger Things. I’m definitely going to watch this season. It looks creepy and super interesting.
