One Chicago: A Fan-Favorite Actor Returns Behind the Camera
Big news for all fans of the “One Chicago” series
An actor who’s very popular with fans is returning to the show. However, there’s a little surprise: This time, he won’t be in front of the camera. He’ll be taking on a completely different role.
We’re all getting ready for the new TV season. “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago PD,” and “Chicago Med” are coming back soon. We’ll have to wait a few more weeks. Filming is already underway, which gives us some clues as to what might happen. Unfortunately, we know that some key characters will be leaving the series. Joe Mińoso, who plays Joe Cruz on “Fire,” is saying goodbye. Dermot Mulroney is also stepping down from his role as Dom Pascal. And LaRoyce Hawkins is leaving the series in his role as Kevin Atwater on “Chicago PD.”
They’re expected to return for a few episodes at the start of the season to wrap up their storylines. It’s sad to see them go. These characters are really important to the show. It’s a big risk for the network to lose so many cast members at once. But there’s also good news. When the 14th season of “Chicago PD” begins, a familiar face will return to the team.
Actor Ethan Smith recently shared a photo on Instagram.
It reveals that Jesse Lee Soffer is returning to direct the second episode of the 14th season of “Chicago PD.” There isn’t much else to be gleaned from the photo. But if you’ve been following this police drama for a long time, you’re probably thrilled. This is really great news.
Jesse Lee Soffer played Jay Halstead for 10 seasons. He was an important part of the series. When he finally left, many fans were very unhappy. It felt as though his departure had happened way too quickly. Many of the things his character did just didn’t fit him at all. To be honest, his exit was a huge disappointment for many. It took a few years before he reappeared in the 2026 “One Chicago” crossover. That was cool, but we still have questions about where he went.
We still need to find out what happened during his conversation with Hailey Upton. We didn’t get a clear answer to that in the crossover episode. For now, it looks like Soffer will simply be behind the camera. He’s directed the show before, and he’s actually really good at it. Some of the best episodes in recent years were directed by him.
People are wondering if his return has anything to do with Kevin Atwater’s departure. LaRoyce Hawkins has been with the show from the very beginning. Fans are really hoping that the showrunners handle his exit better than they did with Halstead’s. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when the new season premieres.
