X-Men comics have just delivered a huge surprise in its latest X-Men comics. They’ve finally shown us Rogue and Gambit’s son! For fans who love this couple, this is a real highlight. The boy’s name is a real tearjerker. It also makes Gambit’s recent name change seem much sadder than we thought.
Superhero love stories usually fall apart pretty quickly. But with Rogue and Gambit, it’s actually different. They got married in 2018. They’ve been a real team ever since. Currently, they lead the Louisiana X-Men and look after a group of marginalized teenagers. They’ve turned these kids into a little family.
This is especially important since both Rogue and Gambit had really tough childhoods. Rogue didn’t even know who her father was. Her mother died when she was still a little girl. Gambit had it rough, too. He was abandoned at birth, simply because he had strange red eyes. A gang of street thieves took him in. Now it looks as though their own son might never get to know them either. It’s simply heartbreaking.
X-MEN INTRODUCES GAMBIT’S SON, JEAN-LUC LEBEAU
Things have gone terribly wrong in the pages of “Uncanny X-Men.” Gambit stole a cursed object from a dragon. This changed him drastically. He transformed into this terrifying monster named Wyvern. He even developed a craving to devour humans. In the latest issue, “Uncanny X-Men” No. 34, Gambit asks a priest named Gabriel for help. The series is being worked on by a team that includes Gail Simone and Luciano Vecchio, among others.
Gabriel tries to help Gambit fight the evil within him. He tells him he must eradicate the evil. Meanwhile, Gambit has several visions. One of them is a meeting with his son, Jean-Luc LeBeau. Gambit is overjoyed to see his boy. Jean-Luc has the same red eyes as his father. But then the boy delivers some bad news. He says that, because of all the current events, they might never actually meet. Gambit’s curse and his decision to help the teenage Outliers mean that they may not have a biological child in the future.
The name Jean-Luc is a loving nod to the man who raised Gambit. Remy’s adoptive father took him off the streets of Louisiana. He gave him a real home within the Thieves’ Guild. The choice of this name connects the boy to both the past and the future. It shows exactly what Gambit stands to lose if he cannot break the curse.
ROGUE AND GAMBIT HAVE CHILDREN SCATTERED ACROSS THE MULTIVERSE
Jean-Luc is the child they would have in the main timeline. But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen their children. There are many stories featuring their children. A famous example is Olivier Raven from “X-Men: The End.” He possessed all kinds of mental powers. Then there’s Irene LeBeau from “Captain Marvel: The End.” She was named after Rogue’s mother, Destiny. She even possessed Rogue’s powers.
Most of the time, these stories focus on Rogue’s past. This new story, however, revolves around Gambit. It shows just how much he has to lose if he continues to be the Wyvern. That’s a very frightening threat.
GAMBIT’S SON SHOWS HOW BAD HIS CURSE HAS BECOME
The encounter with his son is sad, but also truly creepy. The curse makes Gambit feel the urge to devour the people he loves. Even as he holds his own son in his arms, he thinks to himself: “There’s a truth I can’t tell him without breaking down. That he smells. He smells so delicious.” That’s just tough.
The comic really tries to show that the curse could ruin everything good in his life. Even if he gets rid of the Wyverns, the problem with his son remains. Jean-Luc says that because Gambit is busy raising the Outliers, he’s giving up his own chance at a family with Rogue. That’s going to be a heavy burden for her.
