It joins The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the Michael Jackson film Michael, Toy Story 5, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Incidentally, Spider-Man reached this $1 billion milestone extremely quickly, placing it right behind Avengers: Endgame.
This huge success makes history in several ways. For one, it is only the third R-rated film ever to surpass the $1 billion mark. The others were Joker from 2019 and Deadpool & Wolverine from 2023. This also means it’s the first film with a 17+ rating that isn’t based on comic book characters to reach this milestone. Pretty cool, right?

This makes 2026 the year with the most billion-dollar hits of this decade. It has even surpassed 2025, which saw four hits, including Ne Zha 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash. And you know what? We still have Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters later this year. We all remember how Avengers: Endgame performed in 2019—the film grossed nearly $2.8 billion. If Doomsday can achieve similar numbers, 2026 could turn out to be one of the best years at the box office since the start of the pandemic.
