Get ready for the start of school, because the new Harry Potter trailer HBO has just been released and gives us our first real glimpse of the upcoming series. We finally know that the series officially premieres on December 25—just in time for the holidays. Fans already got some early glimpses during the big “Back to Hogwarts” event, and people are already talking about it nonstop.

The “Harry Potter” story began in 1997 as a simple book, but it grew into something huge. It is undoubtedly one of the biggest phenomena in today’s entertainment industry. Now HBO is taking the reins and has big plans. The network intends to adapt all seven original books into seven full TV seasons. That means we’ll get to see much more of the story than was ever possible in the movies. The first season will cover “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”.
Everyone is really excited to see what the cast will look like. The new list includes, among others, John Lithgow as Dumbledore and Nick Frost in the role of Hagrid. Other actors joining the cast include Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout. In the trailer, we even caught a brief glimpse of Lord Voldemort, but who’s playing him is being kept under wraps for now. The whole thing is very mysterious.

While we wait for December, there’s plenty of fun to be had. You can test how much you really know about the wizarding world. For example, do you know which spell Harry uses to disarm people? It’s “Expelliarmus.” He used it all the time, even against Voldemort. Or maybe you’re familiar with magical creatures? Hagrid’s hippogriff in the third book was named Buckbeak.

What’s new with the cast?
There’s already big news about Season 2. In fact, one of the actors is being replaced! Originally, Nicholas Hoult was supposed to play the teacher Gilderoy Lockhart. But he dropped out, and now Kit Harington is taking over the role. Yes, that’s right—the guy from Game of Thrones. He’s a huge fan of the books and says that playing Lockhart is a dream come true for him. He’s even worked on the audiobooks before, so he knows the character pretty well.
However, not everything went smoothly. People were pretty upset when HBO unveiled the new designs for the Hogwarts house crests. Many fans took to social media to say that the new designs looked cheap and messy. They really hope the actual series will look better than these logos. It’s safe to say that everyone is waiting with bated breath to see what it will look like on Christmas Day.
