The year 2026 was something of a roller coaster ride for science fiction fans. Some movies were hits, others were flops. But there’s one big movie everyone’s talking about: Project Hail Mary. It was a massive hit at the box office.
The movie is based on the book by Andy Weir. He’s the same author who wrote the book that inspired the 2015 film The Martian. You all remember that, right? Matt Damon played the lead role, and the movie was fantastic.
Amazon MGM has decided to cast Ryan Gosling in the lead role of Ryland Grace. Gosling is basically the biggest star in the world right now. He just starred in that Barbie movie with Margot Robbie. That movie grossed over a billion dollars. That was a massive success. Since he’s such a huge star, it makes sense that he’s doing so well with this sci-fi movie. “Project Hail Mary” has grossed over $600 million so far.
That’s a lot of money. Because of this success, Gosling is now actually joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll star in a new “Ghost Rider” movie. Shawn Levy will direct, and the film is set to hit theaters in 2028.
Many people have been asking all year whether there will be a sequel to “Project Hail Mary”. Amazon hasn’t greenlit a second film yet. But there’s good news. There’s a new way to continue Ryland Grace’s story. A company called Maze Theory is developing a VR experience called Project Hail Mary: Journey Among The Stars.
It’s set to be released later this year. You can play it on the Meta Quest 3, Android XR, and Pico. In it, you take on the role of Ryland Grace. You can play through parts of the story that didn’t appear in the movie. You’ll be on the spaceship with Rocky, fixing things in space, and chatting with your alien friend. It’s pretty cool that the film’s directors, Chris Miller and Phil Lord, as well as author Andy Weir, are all involved in this project.

Is “Project Hail Mary” available for streaming?
Everyone wants to know if they can watch Project Hail Mary at home. The movie is currently available on Prime Video and MGM+. It was released on MGM+ in June and came to Prime Video on July 3. Before that, it was only shown in theaters for about two months. It premiered in theaters on March 20.
The film didn’t become available on digital platforms until May. Production costs totaled about $200 million. Since it grossed $684 million, it was a huge success. The best part is the reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received a 95% rating from both critics and fans. That’s a really high score. Check it out on Prime Video or MGM+ if you haven’t seen it yet.
